The advance in various field of technology has been increased dramatically. One of the branches of technology is Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is the field of making intelligent machines, particularly in intelligent computer programs (Mccarthy, 2007). There are a lot of products that made from the technology of AI such as industrial robots, robots that conduct surgery and others. Thus, there are a lot of benefits that made from the development of AI, such as improve human lifestyle, progress in human technology, higher productivity and increase in security. However, there are also adversaries that do not support the development of Artificial Intelligence. They say that the development of Artificial Intelligence will cause the destruction of human race by robots, war, ethical and economy problems. Therefore, in this essay, we will discuss whether the benefits of AI will outweigh its drawbacks.
One of the advantages of AI is it improves lifestyle. All household chores can be done by intelligent robots. Smart homes also can cleans, cooks and repair by theirselves (Morgenstern, 2006). The demand for these artificial helpers has increased every year. For example, the Roomba and Scooba become the top items that have been sold in Amazon.com. Hence, human may have more leisure time, and can spend their precious time with other activities (Boden, 1990). Apart from that, AI also improves human health. There are a lot of intelligent health machines that has been made, such as The Da Vinci, the only robot that approved by FDA to conduct surgery (Garreau, 2007). Surgery made by robots is more precise, thus lessen trauma and infections (Robotworx, n.d.). Therefore, it is apparent that AI improves human lifestyle.
Besides that, AI also will enhance the progress in education and knowledge-based technology. AI software makes learning more interesting by interactive study (Boden, 1990). AI encouraged the children to learn by construction, which encourage creativity and passion in learning. Construction is one of the theory in education, where the student learn something by construction them, not just by “absorbing” them from teachers and other learning material. The LOGO software, allow children to construct geometrical shape by “turtles”. (Brown, 1998). Next , the underpinning of super intelligence can speed up the technology advancement. It helps a lot in the problem-solving questions without mistake. Moreover, it also leads to the vivid progress in all technological and scientific fields, as it can make research with super human ability (Bostrom, 2003). AI can also make the knowledge is more available to all mankind (Boden, 1990). Hence, it is obvious that AI enhance education and knowledge-based technology.
