BACKGROUND

The proposed field of study for my research is the Indian Colour Cosmetics industry. The significance for my research in this subject is drawn from the realism that the Indian colour cosmetics industry is a fast growing industry providing a whole lot of opportunities for both companies present currently in the market as well as those entering into the market (Cosmetics to India, 2009). The colour cosmetics industry experienced a growth of around 28% in 2007 and this is expected to be the trend for the next 5 years (Colour Cosmetics - Euromonitor International, 2008).
Secondly, having worked in the colour cosmetics industry in India, this research would provide me with an opportunity of improving my knowledge in this field. My research will be based on an authentic understanding of the market as I’ll be associated with an Indian colour cosmetics company during the pre-launch study of the market for their new product.

The colour cosmetics sector in India can be divided into sub-sectors based on the product type. The different sub-sectors are Facial makeup, Eye makeup, Lip products and Nail products (Colour Cosmetics - Euromonitor International, 2008).
The Indian colour cosmetics industry is set to see sales that are expected to grow dynamically at the rate of 19% constant value Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) over the period covering the next five years. The consumption of cosmetics is said to be growing mainly because of the change in lifestyle among the young consumers. The Indian cosmetics industry is forecasted to have sales worth around INR 12.568 billion in 2009 (Colour Cosmetics ...
