Historical & Social Aspects of ICT
Have we ever considered living in our world without all this modern technology? We would not have the personal computer I am sitting in front of now for my assignment, much less mobile phone networks, satellites, systems used military, or any other device that relies on micro technology. What would the world be like if all the technology we’ve developed, discovered, and invented over the last 100 years suddenly stopped working? Well, nowadays, living without technology is not possible because the word ‘technology’ itself is a relationship that the society has with its tools and mechanisms in order to control its environment. Technology is the word that stands for that branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means in order to use them in our life, within our society and the environment. Therefore technology is just the need for the human beings to live a better life within our world by evolving and creating better ways of living. As human beings were brought to life, technology started to evolve very slowly since even the first primitive people that lived on earth started to evolve and create their own tools to work in the fields, hunt for animals and get there food and also in order to start and build their own homes. Therefore technology or better nowadays ICT started to evolve over the past, but saw its boom in our present century shaping our society and the way we are living.
We can classify technology into two sections, the early technology and the modern technology. The early technology saw its birth in the Stone Age where as we said before all humans had a lifestyle which included limited use of tools. Their early first major type of technology was only tied to survival, hunting and food preparation. Thus, the first major technological developments in this period were the use of fire, stone tools and weapons and also clothing. Obviously these first tools and weapons were made from hard rock’s such as flint, jade and greenstone. After the Stone Age, came the copper and bronze age were surely in this period there were radical changes in the agriculture technology and the adoption of permanent settlements. This was made possible thanks to the development of metal such as copper, bronze and also alloy of tin and copper. Therefore in this period we see an agricultural and or metal technology. After this copper and bronze age came the Iron Age which involved the adoption of iron smelting. The iron simply replaced bronze, and thus made it possible to produce tools which were stronger, but also cheaper to make than any other previous tools built from bronze. Also in this time, in Europe, large hill forts were constructed in order to serve as a refuge in time of war, or sometimes, also as a permanent settlements. Thus, by using these more effective iron axes, they increased and provided more farmland to support more food ...
